Employability and Other Work Skills
We provide opportunities for further development of migrants’ current skills and knowledge to fill in any missing information like workplace culture, common language, specific industry requirements, Australian Laws and business requirements.
How We Can Help
Group Workshop - Professional English (FREE for members)
Besides covering the usual mistakes that we see migrants make in spoken and written English, we encourage people to bring along examples of the types of documents they are required to write and messages they need to convey to management, team members or their staff. A range of exercises are provided for both learning the rules and practice.
Group Workshop - Workplace Cross-Cultural Understanding (FREE for members)
First up, we cover a set of common cross-cultural misunderstandings and how to respond in the different situations likely to arise. Time is then spent on participants discussing their own experiences, getting any questions resolved and gaining shared value from the areas covered.
Group Workshop - Improving Job Application Documents and Interviewing Skills
Over a series of short workshops, we look closely at selection criteria, resumes, cover letters and interview skills. Your resume needs to reflect you – your skills, experience and personality match when the employer interviews you. In groups, we discuss if you match the selection criteria and what to say if you don’t, document layout and more.
We cover what to expect at interviews, including what employers are looking for in applicants, behavioural question answers, how to prepare…and what to do if you make a mistake, freeze or miss something.
Group Workshop - Dealing with difficult situations
This workshop explores a range of difficult situations that can occur with clients, managers, staff and the public. We look at possible approaches and solutions for each scenario.
Additional One-to-One Assistance for Specific Jobs
Besides group employment-focussed workshops, we provide individuals support to write an application against a specific job description and/or to undertake a practice interview before their real interview occurs. One-on-one career consultation…. See the Membership page for hourly rates.
Additional One-to-One Assistance for Business Situations
We are also available to discuss business and work situations with business owners and potential business owners.
